Topographic differencing spanning the 2025 Palisades and Eaton Fires, LA

Published by OpenTopography | OpenTopography | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 03:00 AM | Dataset Last Updated: February 06, 2025
In January 2025, a number of wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton fires scorched parts of Los Angeles County, CA, destroying thousands of homes and other buildings. This is a publication of the initial 1-meter resolution topographic differencing results spanning these Los Angeles fires, along with improved pre-fire digital terrain models (DTMs) and digital surface models (DSMs), and post-fire DTMs and DSMs that match the horizontal coordinate reference system, the geoid and the resolution of the pre-fire rasters. We applied height above ground corrections to the pre-fire point cloud and a translation to the pre-fire raster dataset to improve the co-registration of the pre- and post- fire datasets. We note that these topographic change results span eight years and therefore contain many landscape changes unrelated to the fire.
