Temperature profile data in the Indian Ocean from ORSTOM (France); 26,000 profiles from years 1906 thru 1989. Most appear to be derived from bathythermographs, although allowance is made for Nansen cast and CTD cast profiles. Data are to 500 m. These data are structured so as to be selected and plotted by the accompanying software. The data were received as a DOS backup on eleven 5.25" diskettes. These were restored to a PC hard disk and copied to archival storage media in 52 files. Note: Data was originally held in IOSBT (Indian Ocean Subsurface Temperature), a database managed by ORSTOM (France). IOSBT is described as a "subsurface temperature database with the ability to gather data from different sources", i.e., NANSEN casts, XBT's, CTD's, etc. IOSBT was originally created to aid in research of the Tuna industry. The publication, "A presentation of the Indian Ocean subsurface temperature (IOSBT) data set" is included in the originator's documentation.
