Reference wells for the regional ground-water potential map by Bedinger and Harrill (2004), Death Valley regional ground-water flow system, Nevada and California

Metadata Updated: October 2, 2025

This digital geospatial data set is a compilation of reference points representing wells deeper than 300 meters in Nevada that were used for the regional ground-water potential map by Bedinger and Harrill (2004). The regional ground-water-potential map was developed to assess potential interbasin flow in the Death Valley regional ground-water flow system (DVRFS), a 100,000 square-kilometer region of southern Nevada and California. To obtain an adequate network of control points, Bedinger and Harrill (2004) used regional potential altitudes derived from surface-water features, ground-water levels, topographic settings and springs in addition to the deep well data. A set of general guidelines was developed to relate regional ground-water potential to these more readily observed surface and near-surface ground-water levels and to hydrologic characteristics of ground-water basins in the DVRFS (see "Larger Work Citation", Appendix 1).
