Drone lidar and SfM survey of the XEOLXELEK-Elk Lake Fault, May 2021
A SfM collection was collected on May 4th, 2021, over a section of fault scarp on the edge of XEOLXELEK Elk Lake (pronounced: hul-lahk-lik, abbreviated XELF). Drone lidar was acquired over the same site two weeks later, on May 17th, 2021. The data were collected to assist in the excavation of a paleoseismic trench. An additional objective was to use these datasets to compare SfM and drone lidar collections. The imagery for the SfM model was collected using a DJI Phantom 4 Professional V2 drone, with the onboard camera. For the drone lidar, a Riegl MiniVux1-UAV laser scanner and an Applanix APX-20 UAV IMU mounted to a DJI Matrice 600 Pro drone were used to collect the dataset, more information about the platform can be found in Salomon et al. (2024). A classified point cloud and raster digital terrain models (DTMs) at different scales (20cm and 1m resolution) were produced.
