Zilker Vision Plan

Published by data.austintexas.gov | City of Austin | Catalog Last Checked: March 30, 2026 at 09:50 PM | Dataset Last Updated: March 20, 2026
The Zilker Metropolitan Park Vision Plan was a long-term planning initiative by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department (APR) to guide the restoration and future development of Zilker Park. The plan emphasized ecological restoration, improved accessibility, and reduced reliance on personal vehicles through enhanced pedestrian, bicycle, and shuttle transit options. Key proposals included removing surface parking to restore green space, constructing parking structures, and relocating the Zilker Hillside Theater. After extensive community engagement, the planning process was suspended in August 2023 following opposition from Austin City Council members. Although the plan was halted, the draft and related materials remain available for public reference.
