Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 03:53 AM | Dataset Last Updated: April 13, 2026 at 12:00 AM
The National Park Service (NPS) Wildlife Health Morbidity & Mortality Observation (WHMMO) database is available to anyone within the NPS. It is a unique tool to track wildlife information and disease processes in wildlife. At the park level, information can help track general wildlife observations, illnesses, or deaths to determine incidence of disease. At a more broad level, the collected data is used for historical purposes in tracking wildlife and zoonotic disease outbreaks, informing management decisions, evaluating the effectiveness of management decisions, and providing a searchable record for park documentation in addition to exploring new avenues of research that may impact animal, human, and environmental health. This data package contains data from WHMMO between 1990-08-14 and 2026-02-25.
