Watershed Restoration Grant Awards - CDFW [ds2663]

Metadata Updated: July 24, 2025

PROPOSITION 1 GRANTS The Water Quality, Supply, and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 (Proposition 1) provides funding to implement the three broad objectives of the California Water Action Plan: more reliable water supplies; the restoration of important species and habitat; and a more resilient, sustainably managed water resources system (water supply, water quality, flood protection, and environment). PROPOSITION 68 GRANTS The California Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, And Outdoor Access For All Act Of 2018 (Proposition 68) provides funding for CDFW grants for projects that: 1) improve a community's ability to adapt to the unavoidable impacts of climate change; 2) improve and protect coastal and rural economies, agricultural viability, wildlife corridors, or habitat; and/or 3) develop future recreational opportunities, or enhance drought tolerance, landscape resilience, and water retention. GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTION FUND GRANTS Greenhouse Gas Reduction Projects are funded under California's Cap and Trade Program's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). These projects include mountain meadow and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta wetland restoration projects that will lead to reductions in greenhouse gases. RESTORATION GRANTS PROGRAM This program funds projects based on their suitability for each grant, not based on specific grant applications. It began in 2022 and accepts applications on an ongoing basis, giving out grants on a monthly cycle. As of 2023, the available grants are: Drought - Protecting Salmon, Addressing Climate Impacts, Wetlands and Mountain Meadow Restoration, Wildlife Corridors, Proposition 1, and Proposition 68. FISHERIES RESTORATION GRANT PROGRAM GRANTS The Fisheries Restoration Grant Program (FRGP) was established in 1981 in response to rapidly declining populations of wild salmon and steelhead trout and deteriorating fish habitat in California. This competitive grant program has invested millions of dollars to support projects from sediment reduction to watershed education throughout coastal California. Contributing partners include federal and local governments, tribes, water districts, fisheries organizations, watershed restoration groups, the California Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps, and private landowners. FRGP’s database began in 1999 to capture and maintain data about habitat restoration projects in California benefiting anadromous fish. The FRGP specific data is managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and funded by NOAA Fisheries and CDFW. DATA OVERVIEW This data set contains points provided by the grantees representing the approximate location of the projects approved by the California Department of Wildlife's Watershed Restoration Grants Branch for funding under these grants through 2024. In some cases, the points represent small, discrete sites, but in many they represent larger areas such as regions, watersheds, or stream reaches. In a few cases the points are a laboratory site in which research will be/has been conducted. An attempt has been made to assess the point extent, but this was done by CDFW personnel based on the grant title and description, not the grantee.
