Urban soil hydrology, hydraulic conductivity measurements

Metadata Updated: November 12, 2020

We used field measurements of seldom-assessed hydraulic conductivity in urban locations. Although emphasis is placed on soils as permeable surfaces that regulate the rainfall-runoff process, representative soil hydraulic and hydrologic parameters for urban areas are rare. The extent to which measured and commonly simulated hydraulic data may differ is also largely uncharacterized. As part of the EPA urban soil assessment infiltration and drainage rates were measured in 12 cities and compared these to estimates generated from the EPA National Stormwater Calculator (NSWC), USDA Soil Survey Geographic Database (SSURGO), and USDA Rosetta.
