This Story Map of UPDE Trail of Geology provides a virtual tour of geological features along the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. The map provides information on landmarks within the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River corridor such as the Hawk's Nest cliffs, the Big Eddy Narrows, the Skinners Falls rapids, Jensens Ledges, and Point Mountain. In 1978 Congress designated the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River (UPDE) as a unit of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. Forming part of the Pennsylvania (PA) - New York (NY) border, the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River flows approximately 73.3 river miles across two states, five counties, and fifteen municipalities. The UPDE river corridor is an area of natural and scenic beauty. Rural in nature, the Upper Delaware is covered by a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests. Small communities (hamlets) and agricultural areas dot the landscape. As one of the largest undammed waterways in the eastern United States, the river provides high-quality water, ecologic diversity and integrity, and many recreational opportunities.
