U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service: Region 6 Scanning Project: Mountain-Prairie Photograph Catalog

Metadata Updated: October 28, 2023

The USFWS Region 6 Scanning Project is an Inventory and Monitoring funded project that has been arranging, preserving, and digitizing historic materials from several stations and Wetland Management Districts throughout the Mountain-Prairie Region since 2010. The majority of these items are print and slide photographs. All scanned images are given a three-tiered catalog number comprised of: state_station_#, and metadata is placed into an excel spreadsheet. The R6SP has produced a photograph catalog of over 15,000 scanned images to date. The vast majority of these are not copyrighted, and are at least twenty-years-old.

The project collects photographs in order to provide digital images to Service employees for research and management purposes, serve the public with visual representations of FWS conservation history in the Mountain-Prairie Region, and preserve our legacy materials through proper long-term archival storage. The catalog features a myriad of photography types and reflects several important historical themes.

Metadata for the entire catalog is provided in this reference on a modified spreadsheet. It was derived from a larger working version that includes a wide variety of FWS records (all of non-photograph records processed by the project have been added to ServCat). Two help documents related to the collection are also provided in this reference. One document provides a Scope of Contents for the catalog. The other provides guidelines for sorting the catalog spreadsheet.

All requests for cataloged images should be made to:
