Travel Time Estimates of the Blue River and Major Tributaries, in and near Kansas City, Missouri, 2023–25
This page contains tabulated travel time-of-travel estimates between reference streamgages along the Blue River and Python scripts used to obtain these estimates. Utilizing Anaconda Miniforge 24.11.3 using Python 3.12.4 via Jupyter Lab 4.4.1, USGS instantaneous measurements of stage were found over a 15-year interval for an upstream gage and downstream gage. Select gages along the Blue River, 06893100, 06893150, 06893390, 06893500, 06893557, 06893562, 06893578, and 06893590, that fell within the model domain of the model applications were used to estimate median travel times. At an upstream and downstream site, peak events were identified at each site and the difference in time between the two gages were measured. Median travel times were found for stage ranges established by the National Weather Service (NWS), National Water Prediction Service (http://water.noaa.gov/) and are reported here.
The following .7z file contains user-defined input parameters used to analyze specific gage locations along the Blue River. Also included is Python code used to calculate travel times between USGS gages of the user's choice. In addition, included are the raw results directly produced from the Python scripts and a summary of the results that were submitted to the U.S. Geological Survey Flood-Inundation Mapper (https://fim.wim.usgs.gov/fim/).
