Topobathy Footprint of the Upper Mississippi River System

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 03:29 AM | Dataset Last Updated: March 02, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Separate elevation for floodplain and riverbed topography were acquired over a range of years on the Upper Mississippi River System by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Upper Mississippi River Restoration Program. These data were combined into a seamless elevation surface, or topobathy dataset and released in 2016. While topobathy datasets exist for each UMRS pool, this topobathy “footprint” serves as a quick reference tool to the location, extent, and metadata associated with each pool’s lidar and bathymetry coverage. Additionally, areas of missing coverage, or “no data” are included so that the user may quickly determine areas of interpolation or where new data is needed.
