Time-lapse Photographs of Edge of Field site near Findlay, OH 2017–2020
This data release contains 460 time-stamped photographs collected by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) cameras deployed at an agricultural edge-of-field study site in the Eagle Creek watershed near Findlay, Ohio. The photographs were captured as part of a long-term (2012–20) investigation conducted by the USGS in cooperation with the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service to evaluate the effectiveness of selected conservation practices— cover crops and variable rate technology—at reducing sediment and nutrient losses from agricultural fields. The camera images documented field management activities. Photographs were used to corroborate the dates and times of producer actions such as planting, harvesting, tillage, fertilizer application, and aerial seeding of winter wheat. This verification supported the development of a time line of management practices, which helped interpret changes in runoff volume and water-quality responses measured at paired surface-runoff and subsurface-tile monitoring sites.
