Hawaii Coral Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (CRAMP) benthic data and still images from 2016-06-07 to 2016-08-09 on Maui (NCEI Accession 0222143)

Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | U.S. Census Bureau, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: April 12, 2026 at 03:22 PM | Dataset Last Updated: December 12, 2020 at 12:00 AM
This dataset consists of digital still images along coral reef transect lines, from which quantitative benthic data are derived from select images via PhotoGrid, a software package that analyzes random points on digital still images of coral reefs and substrate. The benthic data include substrate type and species identification. A total of 20 transects of the Hawaii Coral Reef Assessment and Monitoring Program (CRAMP) took place 2016-06-07 to 2016-08-09 at 10 sites on Maui. Only every other image was analyzed in PhotoGrid. Most sites consist of two transects along different isobaths-- shallow (~2-4m) and deep (~7-13m) lines. CRAMP has surveyed state-wide coral reefs quasi-annually since 1999 with all historic sets archived at NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI.
