Thyroid Hormone Insufficiency Alters the Pattern of Expression of the Ca2+-Binding Proteins in the Rat Neonatal Cortex

Published by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | Catalog Last Checked: April 21, 2026 at 08:08 PM | Dataset Last Updated: October 14, 2025
Dataset includes various results from two studies: the first study being a pilot study (M1123) and the second including dose response (M1224). In both studies, pregnant rats were dosed with Propylthiouracil (PTU) through drinking water with either 0 and 3ppm PTU (M1123) or 0, 0.5, 1, and 3ppm PTU (M1224) and tissue collected from both pups at various ages and dams on postnatal day 23. Specific results include serum thyroid hormone measures (RIA for thyroid stimulating hormone and LC-MS/MS for the remaining thyroid hormones), cortical thyroid hormone measures (LC-MS/MS), cortical gene expression data (qPCR), body weights, and immunohistochemical cell count data for four stains (DAB staining): parvalbumin, GAD-67, calbindin, and calretinin. Also included are the results for periventricular heterotopia volume measures (NeuN staining with DAB). Cell counts and volume measures for the periventricular heterotopia were conducted using Aperio ImageScope software.
