The National Survey of Children's Health (NSCH)

Published by National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH), Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP), Asthma and Air Quality Branch (AAQB) | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Catalog Last Checked: September 28, 2026 at 08:25 PM
The NSCH is a national survey that focuses on the physical and emotional health of children and young adults ages 3 to 24 in the United States. The NSCH-LC followed up with households that were interviewed for the 2018 or 2019 National Survey of Children's Health. The NSCH collected information from parents and caregivers related to the health and well-being of the same children and young adults in 2023 and 2024, including access to and use of health care, family interactions, mental health, school and after-school experiences, and family economic circumstances. Asthma related questions are asked to determine child lifetime and current asthma prevalence. The 2025 questionnaire will include a question, sponsored by AAQB, on asthma attacks. (CDC/NCEH/DEHSP/AAQB is the source of the "add-on"/"child" survey question about asthma attacks among children; the "parent" survey, National Survey of Children's Health, is administered by HRSA's Maternal and Child Health Bureau)
