The Global Flood Impacts Database (GFID)
The final geocoded flood-event data are aggregated into a single Microsoft Excel workbook, AggregatedFloodData.xlsx, that includes individual sheets for each source dataset and an “Aggregated” sheet containing selected harmonized flood-event fields. This child item also includes Potential_Duplicate_Events.csv, an event-level duplicate-screening file identifying records with at least one potential duplicate or overlapping event record from another source database based on a 30-day and 25-km screening criterion.
The “Aggregated” sheet includes fields for a unique event ID, source-specific Source_ID, Source, Start Date, End Date, consolidated Date, Year, final representative Lat and Lon coordinates, Country, Location for EM-DAT entries, and Adm1 and Adm2 for DesInventar entries. For DesInventar and EM-DAT records, Lat and Lon are derived from the final GEO_LAT and GEO_LON fields in the corresponding geocoded files. For DFO and HANZE records, Lat and Lon are derived from the source or geocoded coordinate fields available for those datasets.
The workbook also includes harmonized and source-specific impact fields. All sources include Fatalities and Affected fields where corresponding information was available. DFO entries include Displaced; DesInventar entries include Injured, Missing, Relocated, Evacuated, Losses $USD, Losses $Local, Houses Destroyed, and Houses Damaged; EM-DAT entries include Injured, total damage ('000 us$), and total damage, adjusted ('000 us$); and HANZE entries include Losses (nominal value), Losses (original currency), and Losses (2024 euro). Because impact definitions, currencies, adjustment methods, and reporting practices differ by source database, source-specific impact fields should not be assumed to be directly comparable without additional harmonization.
Potential_Duplicate_Events.csv identifies possible duplicate or overlapping records across source databases. These indicators are intended for screening and interpretation and should not be treated as confirmed duplicate classifications.
