Tank Evaluation of Two Acoustic Cameras to Inform Fish Collision Risk Monitoring Capabilities

This dataset contains acoustic camera data collected in the engineering tank at the Jere A. Chase Ocean Engineering Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire in October 2025. Data were collected with two acoustic cameras: a Sound Metrics Corporation ARIS 3000 (ARIS) and a Tritech Gemini 1200ikd (Gemini). Three tests were completed with each acoustic camera: 1. Test 1 - a single 38.1 mm tungsten carbide sphere was moved throughout beam array of the acoustic camera with 1 degree horizontal resolution and 2 degree vertical resolution to characterize how the appearance of the target varied throughout the acoustic camera field of view 2. Test 2 - 38.1 mm spheres of different materials (aluminum, hollow polypropylene, and solid polypropylene) were tested to study the influence of target material on appearance in the acoustic camera image 3. Test 3 - two 38.1 mm tungsten carbide spheres were positioned with varying separation distance (6-22 cm) to study the ability to distinguish between two closely-spaced targets and estimate the separation distance between them. Data was collected using the manufacturer-provided software for both acoustic cameras (ARIScope version 2.10.5.3840 for the ARIS and Genesis version 1.10.5.0 for the Gemini) and extracted for analysis in MATLAB using the manufacturer provided software development kits. This dataset includes the raw data recorded by the acoustic camera software and MATLAB .mat files containing the extracted pings for each target position.
