SWAN Snipe Lake Climate Station, Active Depth Layer Measurements 2017

Published by National Park Service | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: March 19, 2026 at 07:56 PM | Dataset Last Updated: March 17, 2026 at 12:00 AM
These data were collected to identify the seasonal soil active layer at Snipe Lake (SNLA) weather observation station. The soil active layer is the top layer of soil that seasonally thaws in summer and refreezes in winter and is a key indicator of climate and carbon cycle dynamics within an ecosystem. These data are coincidental with NASA Arctic boreal vulnerability experiment, (ABoVE) airborne acquisitions of L and P band microwave data and soil temperature observations made at the Snipe Lake weather station.
