Supporting data for 2022-2023 groundwater budget for the Mountain Home area, southern Idaho
In the arid Mountain Home region, groundwater serves as the primary water source for agriculture, municipalities, industry, and other users, making its long-term availability a growing concern amid observed declines in aquifer levels. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Idaho Department of Water Resources, developed a water budget for the 2023 irrigation year (November 2022 to October 2023), to quantify water resources. The water budget is published in the companion report, SIR 2026-5118 (Groundwater budget for the Mountain Home area, southern Idaho, 2022-23 by P.M. Thomas). This data release contains shapefiles of irrigated lands categorized by their irrigation source, along with deep percolation and runoff estimates, polygons representing calculated areas, and pumpage and diversion data, all of which were used and generated for this report.
