S&T Project 21054 Final Report: Abrasivity of Slurry-Transported Sediment

Published by Bureau of Reclamation | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 05:16 AM | Dataset Last Updated: March 03, 2025 at 12:06 PM
This research seeks to improve existing and develop new laboratory-based test methods to evaluate the abrasive potential of slurry-mobilized sediment to evaluate the abrasive potential of slurry-mobilized sediment to monitor damage, predict failures, and estimate the effect that an abrasive slurry (slurry specimen) would have on the service life of the existing reservoir infrastructure. The research is broken out into two phases, Phases I and II. Phase I is a comparison of state-of-the-practice, smaller-scale laboratory test methods. Phase II is the development of an up-scaled hydraulic test device which allows testing of the abrasion potential of a site-specific soil and a determination of the relative wear-resistance of a pipe material.
