S&T Project 20061 Final Report: Ultrasonic Transducer Field Test for Quagga Mussel Settlement Control

The goal of this study was to investigate if commercially available ultrasound transducers can be used for invasive dreissenid mussel settlement control on submerged infrastructure such as intakes, gates, screens and trashracks. Ultrasound transducers designed for algae control were deployed at two locations at Lake Powell and the accumulation of invasive mussel settlement, algae species, and overall biofouling was observed within and outside of the range of the transducers over a one-year period. The ultrasound transducer tested in this study did not have an obvious impact on mussel settlement, algae species composition, or overall biofouling.
