Species-specific results from RestoreNet seeding and outplanting trials in Southwest, USA drylands, 2018-2022
These data were compiled to assess species performance for 59 native grass, forb, and shrub species that were seeded and (or) planted across 20 RestoreNet sites in the Southwest US. Objectives of our study were to assess species performance within and across ecoregions, across revegetation methods (seeding or outplanting greenhouse-grown seedlings), and by growth form (grass, forb, or shrub) and longevity (annual or perennial). These data represent species information (the ecoregions and sites each species was seeded or planted in, species information including growth habit and longevity), species performance in seeding trials (i.e., average density per meter per site), and species performance in outplanting trials (i.e., percent outplant survival per site). These data were collected in the Southwest US from 20 RestoreNet sites that span seven dryland ecoregions between 2018 and 2022. These data were collected by U.S. Geological Survey employees and partners during annual (or more frequent) field visits to collect seedling emergence/density and outplant survival data. These data can be used to assess species performance within and across sites, ecoregions, revegetation methods, growth forms, and longevity and results can help inform land management decisions for these species in the Southwest US.
