Spatial Data Collection of Adaptive Management Planning for Black Ash Wetlands Threatened by Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Northern Minnesota from 2017-2024

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 05:10 AM | Dataset Last Updated: June 23, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset collection supports adaptive management planning for black ash wetlands threatened by emerald ash borer (EAB) across Minnesota and provides the underlying data used in an ArcGIS StoryMap outlining strategies for black ash wetland management. There is one csv file containing wildlife habitat model data and four shapefiles included in this collection. The black ash complexes layer provides location data in which each wetland complex evaluated in the study occurs. The adaptive management prioritization layer provides a categorized adaptive management priority ranking for black ash wetland complexes based on wetness scores (0–100) to indicate vulnerability to emerald ash borer (EAB) and the suitability of implementing adaptive management actions. The wildlife prioritization layer provides a categorized wildlife priority ranking for black ash wetland complexes across Minnesota. Wildlife prioritization ranks complexes based on their potential value for wildlife, particularly breeding birds, with wetness scores between 70–100 further sorted by size—under the assumption that larger, wetter complexes support greater biodiversity. The combined prioritization layer merges the adaptive management priority score by the wildlife rank to highlight both ecological vulnerability to EAB and wildlife conservation value.
