Published by U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) | U.S. Environmental Protection Agency | Catalog Last Checked: April 21, 2026 at 07:59 PM | Dataset Last Updated: October 02, 2017
By comparing urban to pre-urban soils we quantified major shifts in horizon occurrence and ordering. These shifts have meaning for ecosystem function as horizons represent suites of biological, physical, and chemical properties. This dataset is associated with the following publication: Herrmann, D., L. Schifman, and W. Shuster. Widespread loss of intermediate soil horizons in urban landscapes. PNAS (PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES). National Academy of Sciences, WASHINGTON, DC, USA, 115(26): 6751-6755, (2018).
