g3acld_004 is the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment III (SAGE III) on the Meteor-3M (M-3M) platform (SAGE III/M3M) Level 2 Monthly Cloud Presence Data (HDF-EOS) Version 4 product. It is a monthly compilation of polar cloud presence from SAGE III coincident with solar event granules, that provides information about cloud presence during data capture of the granules. SAGE III obtains profile measurements of aerosol extinction, ozone, water vapor, nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen trioxide, chlorine dioxide, and cloud formations throughout the mesosphere, stratosphere, and upper troposphere with a vertical resolution of 0.5 - 1 km resolution. SAGE III was a fourth generation, satellite-borne instrument and a crucial element in NASA's Earth Observing System (EOS) . The instrument was launched on the Russian M-3M spacecraft in December 2001. The M-3M and SAGE III missions were terminated on March 6, 2006, because of a power supply system failure resulting in loss of communication with the satellite. The newest SAGE mission, SAGE III on ISS, was launched in 2017. SAGE III M-3M L2 Monthly Cloud Presence Data are monthly data files coincident with solar event granules that provides information about cloud presence during data capture of the granules.
