This data release contains rasters of modeled median grain size (D50) and 84th percentile grain size (D84) for the South Fork McKenzie River and McKenzie River, Oregon. These grain-size rasters were produced to aid in quantifying spawning habitat for spring Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha; White and others, 2026) and extend from downstream of Cougar Dam on the South Fork McKenzie River to its confluence with the McKenzie River and continue downstream on the McKenzie River to its confluence with the Willamette River. Grain-size rasters were developed by integrating bathymetric lidar point clouds collected in 2021 and available on USGS The National Map (TNM Download v2) with georeferenced pebble count data collected in 2023 following the approach of White and others (2025a, 2025b). This data release includes rasters of modeled estimates of median grain size (D50) and 84th percentile grain size (D84) along with underlying field-based pebble count data. The metadata associated with this data release provides brief descriptions of the datasets and methods used to develop the grain-size maps, but users are encouraged to read White and others (2025a) and White and others (2026) for additional descriptions of model development and limitations. Published datasets include the full lidar collection extent where ground and bathymetry point densities were at least 5 points per square meter, areas with lower point density were removed from the analysis. This includes out of channel areas such as bars and flooodplain surfaces that were included to facilitate spawning habitat models at higher flows.
