Results of generalized least-squares regression for 565 streamgages on rural, unregulated streams in and near Virginia and West Virginia, 2025

Published by U.S. Geological Survey | Department of the Interior | Catalog Last Checked: August 01, 2026 at 04:21 AM | Dataset Last Updated: February 26, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset contains results of generalized least-squares (GLS) regression conducted to develop equations to estimate streamflows corresponding to the 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, 20, and 50-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) at ungaged locations on rural, unregulated streams in Virginia and West Virginia. The equations were developed using at-site estimates of the selected AEPs from 565 streamgages (child item "At-site flood-frequency statistics for unregulated streamgages in and near Virginia and West Virginia" in this data release) and basin characteristics developed for the study area (child item "Basin characteristics considered for multiple regression analysis for 1050 selected streamgages in and near Virginia and West Virginia" in this data release). Version 3.0 of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Weighted Regression (WREG) software (Eng and others, 2009; Farmer 2021) was used to conduct the GLS regression. 1) "Table_16_GLS_Equations_Coefficients.txt" - Contains the constant, drainage area coefficient, and regression equations associated with the 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, 20, and 50-percent AEPs for each of he 12 hydrologic regions identified for use in and near Virginia and West Virginia. 2) "Table_18_GLS_Performance_Metrics.txt" - Contains selected performance metrics for GLS regression equations for the 12 hydrologic regions. 3) "Table_19_AEP_Discharges.txt" - Contains at-site (Qsite) (813 streamgages), regression-derived (Qreg) (673 streamgages), and regression-weighted (Qweighted) estimates of streamflow (108 streamgages) corresponding to the 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 4, 10, 20, and 50-percent AEPs for rural, unregulated streamgages in the study area. 4) "WREG_Files.zip" - This subdirectory contains the raw input used in and the output files resulting from the execution of GLS regression in USGS WREG software.
