Regulation index for systematic evaluation of regulation status for streamgages in Virginia and West Virginia, 2025
This child item contains supporting documentation for the development of a regulation index to systematically evaluate the regulation status of the Virginia and West Virginia streamgage network. This analysis involved cross-referencing information provided in the National inventory of Dams (NID) with streamgage drainage basins delineations. More details can be found in Appendix 1: Streamflow Regulation Coding of the Peak Streamflow File for Virginia and West Virginia of the companion manuscript. This dataset includes:
1) Dam_Characteristics.txt: dam, reservoir, and supplemental information from NID
2) Dam_Drainage_Area_Delineations.txt: dam drainage areas not provided in NID that were delineated for this analysis
3) Multi_Structure.txt: dam characteristics from NID for reservoirs with multiple dam structures that needed further evaluation
4) Regulation_Summary.txt.: a summary of calculations used in determining the regulation index of a streamgage
5) Table_7_Regulation_Coding_Summary.txt: a summary of the results of the application of the regulation index and coding changes in the peak flow file
