These quality monitoring data for Pathfinder Version 5.2 (PFV5.2) Sea Surface Temperature (SST) are based on the concept of a Rich Inventory developed by the Enterprise Data Systems Group at the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC). The principal concept of a Rich Inventory is to calculate statistics for selected parameters in each data file, store them in a database, and make them available to users and managers of the archive. In PFV5.2, one data file is generated every 12 hours, i.e., daily and nightly. The following statistics are calculated in this quality monitoring accession: valid observation number, number of the observations with value over 3 times the standard deviation, the observed minimum, maximum, mean and median of each image. The above statistics are calculated for several different domains, e. g., global, tropics, middle and latitudes, and also for 22.5x22.5 (lon/lat) degree "chunks".
