Project Macoma: mCDR/ OAE field trial dataset of water temperature, pH, total alkalinity, ADCP, other variables, and reports collected from sensor and discrete observations in Port Angeles Harbor, WA, USA from 2024-06-05 to 2026-03-11 (NCEI Accession 0315543)

This data package contains environmental observations, experimental data, and field reports associated with Project Macoma, an electrochemical ocean alkalinity enhancement pilot at the Port of Port Angeles, Washington, US. The Project used Ebb Carbon’s electrodialysis technology to remove acid from seawater, returning alkaline seawater to the Harbor to promote the ocean’s ability to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. The Project included more than one year of baseline observations (June 2024 - August 11, 2025) followed by 6 months of alkaline release (August 11, 2025 - March 1, 2026), tracked with sensors, sampling, and numerical ocean modeling. The Project was designed to demonstrate all aspects of electrochemical OAE: community engagement and education, permitting, construction, alkalinity release, scientific experimentation including analysis of environmental impacts and alkalinity stability, modeling, Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), integration with desalination, carbon crediting, and decommissioning.
