Profiling Sensor to Map N2 Gas Production in OMZs

Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: May 05, 2026 at 09:05 PM | Dataset Last Updated: August 15, 2017 at 12:00 AM
The newly developed Gas Tension Device (GTD) for this project was successfully tested. The new GTD was used to 150 m depth on the ship’s rosette CTD and step profiled throughout the water column. The data show reasonable vertical profiles of gas tension after the time series records have been deconvolved. Water samples were taken and preserved by UMass Dartmouth for comparison to mass spectrometric approaches. The cruise and ship time was shared with another project involving tests of a water sampler for REMUS-100 AUVs sponsored by UW Royalty Research, saving ship time costs associated with bringing the ship from UW to Hood Canal.
