Power Plants

Published by Office for Coastal Management | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: August 02, 2026 at 11:46 PM | Dataset Last Updated: February 16, 2022 at 12:00 AM
These data represent operable electric generating plants within the vicinity of the U.S. coastline by energy source. This includes all plants that are operating, on standby, or short or long-term out of service with a combined nameplate capacity of 1 megawatt or more. The presence of a facility may indicate that power transmission infrastructure exists nearby. The absence of a facility or lack of sufficient capacity at a facility in a given area may be an important characteristic in future energy planning activities.
