Point glaciological field measurements from Sperry Glacier, Montana, and South Cascade Glacier, Washington
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) routinely collects direct measurements of high-elevation mountain snow accumulation at South Cascade Glacier and Sperry Glacier; two of five benchmark glaciers associated with the U.S. Geological Survey Benchmark Glacier Project.
South Cascade Glacier is located in the Cascade Range in Washington. Measurements began at South Cascade Glacier during the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958). Sperry Glacier is located within Glacier National Park in Montana. Measurements began at Sperry Glacier in 2005. Direct field measurements are collected in the spring and fall at a network of point index sites across each glacier’s surface.
This data release provides point glaciological field measurements for South Cascade Glacier from 2019 to 2024 and for Sperry Glacier from 2014 to 2024.
