Physical trajectory profile data from glider glos_236 deployed by Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in the Great Lakes from 2012-10-05 to 2012-10-24 (NCEI Accession 0242899)

Metadata Updated: February 1, 2025

Slocum glider data were collected during a southern Lake Michigan deployment from 2012-10-02 through 2012-10-24. The glider initially deployed from Muskegon, MI and traveled to a station at 110 m water depth. This transect was repeated several times before crossing the lake southwest toward Racine, WI. The glider redirected and passed the buoy 45007 before being recovered near Holland, MI. Near buoy 45007 there is a co-located vertical temperature mooring maintained by NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory. Note, the glider was deployed in areas of Lake Michigan with at least 30 m of depth. The glider collected vertical profiles of conductivity, temperature, depth, chlorophyll, colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM), and backscatter between depths of 0 and 120 m.

The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) received the data in this dataset from the Integrated Ocean Observing System's National Glider Data Assembly Center (IOOS NGDAC). The IOOS NGDAC received the data in one or more netCDF files comprising an entire glider deployment. The data are measurements of physical oceanographic properties such as temperature, salinity, conductivity, and density. The IOOS NGDAC checked the files for compliance to their netCDF file convention, aggregated the files into a single netCDF file, and then submitted the file to NCEI for long-term preservation.
