Physical trajectory profile data from glider glos_236 deployed by Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) in the Great Lakes from 2017-06-21 to 2017-08-14 (NCEI Accession 0242913)

Metadata Updated: March 17, 2023

Slocum glider data were collected during a Lake Huron deployment from 2017-06-21 through 2017-08-13. This deployment was part of the EPA sponsored 2017 Lake Huron CSMI (Coordinated Science and Monitoring Initiative) . The glider initially deployed from Thunder Bay, MI and traveled south to Saginaw Bay. The glider then traversed a triangular path between northwest and southeast points at the mouth of Saginaw Bay (near Tawas, MI and Port Austin, MI), and offshore 30 km to sample mid-lake conditions. This transect was repeated to observe the gradient across the Saginaw Bay and transition to offshore conditions. Note, the glider was deployed in areas with at least 20m of depth. The glider collected vertical profiles of conductivity, temperature, depth, chlorophyll, colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM), backscatter, and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) between depths of 0 and 70 m.

The National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) received the data in this dataset from the Integrated Ocean Observing System's National Glider Data Assembly Center (IOOS NGDAC). The IOOS NGDAC received the data in one or more netCDF files comprising an entire glider deployment. The data are measurements of physical oceanographic properties such as temperature, salinity, conductivity, and density. The IOOS NGDAC checked the files for compliance to their netCDF file convention, aggregated the files into a single netCDF file, and then submitted the file to NCEI for long-term preservation.
