Physical, chemical, and biological oceanographic data collected for the ECOHAB (ECology and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms) project from 1993 to 2006

Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: August 28, 2026 at 12:04 AM | Dataset Last Updated: January 04, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset includes physical, chemical, and biological oceanographic data including Karenia brevis counts, biochemistry, and behavior, chlorophyll, water temperature, salinity, fluorometry, dissolved oxygen, and other data from various ECOHAB cruises and experiments. ECOHAB (ECology and Oceanography of Harmful Algal Blooms) is a scientific program designed to increase understanding of the fundamental processes underlying the impacts and population dynamics of HABs. This program addresses the many factors at organismal, population, community, and ecosystem levels that determine how HAB species respond to, and potentially alter their environment, the manner in which HAB species affect food-web and community interactions. The program is based on the results of a workshop co-sponsored by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Science Foundation (NSF) and currently receives funding from several federal partners including NOAA, NSF, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
