Published by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Catalog Last Checked: July 31, 2026 at 09:44 PM | Dataset Last Updated: September 06, 2025
Apparatus to test hardened glass uses a heating phase, a dwell phase and a cooling phase. The glass panes are carried upright in trolleys (72) riding on rails (70) through a test chamber (54,56) in a housing (50). A fan blower has its suction side at the upper end of the chamber, and the pressure side at the lower end, under a perforated base (66). The base can be fixed, or it is a conveyor. A gutter (76) is under the base, to catch shards and fragments for panes which shatter during testing, and any glass residue lying on the base is removed by vibration to prevent damage to panes being tested.
