    A method for widening a plastic or plastic-metal composite tube (10) involves (a) inserting an expandable smoothing bush (28) between a sizing tool (12) with several disengageable expanding segments (20) and the tube (10) and (b) widening the tube (10) by disengaging the segments (20) inside the bush (28) while preserving the homogeneity of the inside of the tube (10). Independent claims are also included for (1) a tube-sizing tool as above, with (a) several expandable segments (20) in a rotationally-symmetrical arrangement, which can be moved radially between an engaged position for insertion into the tube and a disengaged position for widening the tube and (b) an expandable smoothing bush (28) which can be inserted between (20) (engaged position) and the tube and then removed after widening the tube (2) a fitting for connecting tubes as above, comprising (a) a fitting body with a supporting bush onto which the widened end of a tube can be pushed and (b) an expandable smoothing bush for widening the end of a tube with a sizing tool as above.
