Published by NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: August 03, 2026 at 06:31 AM | Dataset Last Updated: January 01, 2006 at 12:00 AM
The NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) National 2-D and 3-D Mosaic Products dataset provides two- and three-dimensional mosaic radar products covering the United States. The NSSL National 3-D Reflectivity Mosaic system’s current radar data ingest includes level-2 and level-3 data from the WSR-88D network via CRAFT/IRADS (Integrated Radar Data Services). The grid resolution in the west-east direction is between 1.045km in the south bound of the domain and 0.638km at the northern bound. The grid resolution in north-south direction is 1.112km everywhere. There are two sets of data files available to the users: i) a 3-D reflectivity mosaic grid and ii) 2-D storm products derived from the 3D reflectivity mosaic grid, which include the data fields: composite reflectivity (cref); height associated with the composite reflectivity (hgt_cref); echo top (etp18); severe hail index (shi); probability of severe hail (posh); maximum estimated hail size (mehs); hybrid scan reflectivity (hsr); height associated with the hybrid scan reflectivity (hsrh); low-level composite reflectivity (lcref); height associated with low-level composite reflectivity (hgt_lcref); vertically integrated liquid (vil); VIL density (vilD); and a precipitation flag (convective/stratiform) (pcp_flag).
