The New Haven County, Black, African-American, and Indigenous Court Records collection documents the interactions of individuals and groups of African and/or Indigenous descent with the New Haven County courts from the seventeenth through the early nineteenth centuries. These records reflect the broader legal and social landscape of the colonial, Revolutionary War, and early national time periods. The subject matter includes slavery, indentured servitude, coverture, and land disputes.
