Published by Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) | U.S. Department of Health & Human Services | Catalog Last Checked: September 28, 2026 at 08:00 PM | Dataset Last Updated: August 26, 2025
The purpose of the NSCH is to provide national and state level data for key measures of child health, well-being, and health care needs of American children 0-17 years old. Data from the NSCH are used by the Title V Maternal and Child Health Services Block Grant program to identify state needs and priorities for programmatic action, to track progress on OMB-approved performance and outcome measures, and to serve as the primary national data source on the prevalence and impact of special health care needs among children.
