This dataset provides information on layoffs and discharges, quits, and other separations for the United States, National Regions and States. Data is from the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Quits are voluntary separations initiated by the employee (e.g., leaving for a new job). Layoffs and discharges are involuntary separations initiated by the employer, including layoffs, firings, plant closings, and terminations of seasonal/short-term employees. Other separations include Involuntary separations initiated by the employer, including layoffs, firings, plant closings, and terminations of seasonal/short-term employees.
