Model outputs of habitat suitability for three invasive tegu lizards across the contiguous United States under current and future climate scenarios

This data release is comprised of two datasets; 1) a .tif file containing species distribution model (SDM) outputs for three invasive tegu species (Salvator merianae, S. rufescens, Tupinambis teguixin) across the contiguous United States (CONUS) for three climate scenarios (current, +2 degree C warming and +4 degree C warming). We are providing a stacked raster (9 layers total), with a layer for each species/climate scenario combination and 2) a .csv file containing the proportion of suitable habitat for each state under each scenario for each species as well as state rankings. Suitability thresholds were used to create binary maps for calculating the proportion of area of suitable habitat by state to account for a liberal and conservative interpretation of the data. These were both calculated based on the omission rate because we only had presence locations, and included both the first (liberal) and tenth (conservative) percentile training presence threshold rules, allowing 1% and 10% false presences in the training data (i.e., a presence point that is misclassified as an absence), respectively. We categorized habitat that is suitable under the 10% threshold as ‘Highly suitable’ and habitat that is suitable under the 1% threshold as ‘Likely suitable’. Because the SDMs predict suitability beyond the range of covariate values included in dataset to train the model (i.e., in ‘novel’ habitat), we created additional categories of suitability for each threshold under novel climate conditions, for a total of six habitat suitability categories: ‘Not suitable’, ‘Likely suitable’, ‘Highly suitable’, ‘Novel- not suitable’, ‘Novel- likely suitable, ‘Novel- highly suitable’.
