Mines, smelters, refineries, and recycling facilities in the United States
Developing resilient U.S. mineral supply chains requires data for identifying the vulnerabilities and bottlenecks for the mineral materials that are required for defense technologies, semiconductor manufacturing, agricultural production and advanced electronics. A U.S.-based mineral and metal production facility database is essential for national security and economic stability by mapping mineral resources currently in production or in the pipeline as well as the midstream processing capacities. Using only public source information, this domestic database identified over 800 mining or mineral processing facilities located in the U.S. It covers over 60 commodities (including 96% of the commodities included in the 2025 U.S. Dept. of Interior Critical Minerals List [FR Doc. 2025-19813]). The data provided here may be used to aid policy makers and industry leaders by pinpointing vulnerabilities and bottlenecks in specific commodities or sectors as well identifying the commodities in which the U.S. is economically competitive.
