Metaproteomic Data Associated with Produced Waters collected from the Antrim Shale in Michigan, 2023
This data release contains metaproteomics data from subsurface methanogenic communities in an Antrim Shale (Michigan basin, MI) natural gas well. The subsurface microbial communities have interacted with produced waters that were exposed to ambient surficial conditions prior to injection of the produced waters into the well. These data are used in a related publication to understand impact of injecting oxygenated produced water with an aerobic microbial community on the subsurface methanogenic microbial community of a natural gas well. These data can also be used to investigate microbial community organic matter degradation and methanogenesis of an increasing volume of subsurface pore space samples (e.g., volume series) to understand microbial community function beyond the space around the well bore. Results include thousands of proteins with a wide range of different functions including organic matter degradation, methanogenesis, biosynthesis, energy production, transport, structure, cellular processes, and stress response.
