Measurements of specific conductance at selected locations along the Maurice and Cohansey Rivers in New Jersey from 2021-24
This data release contains recorded longitudinal survey and water-quality data taken on the Maurice and Cohansey Rivers from October 2021 through April 2024. Data were collected with a multi-parameter sonde and includes specific conductance, water temperature, latitude, longitude, and date and time of sample collection. Additional data were collected with the sonde data including associated waypoint numbers, river miles, position of the sonde in the water column, approximate total water depth, calculated sonde depth, and calculated average specific conductance. Although the study of chloride in the tributaries was beyond the scope of this study, three water-quality samples were collected along the Maurice River as a simple check to evaluate if the initial study assumption was valid or within 25-percent of the assumed correlation with the Delaware River studies. Laboratory specific conductance and concentration of chloride presented in this data release are results from the water-quality samples collected. An interpolation method was used to obtain the river mile of the defined 1,100 microsiemens per centimeter specific conductance on each river to develop equations that included the daily specific conductance measured at the tide gages to compute the upstream location of the salt-front.
