    • MCSP Monarch and Plant Monitoring - SOP 3 Immature Monarch Butterfly and Plant 2017 Data

    This record contains counts of eggs and 5 growth stages of larvae of the monarch butterfly, milkweed plants by species, and presence of flowering nectar plants. These data were collected from 150, 1 square-meter quadrats placed in a systematic grid (following SOP 3) during 2017. The grid was situated within a plot centered on custom 2017 GRTS draw point location within select monitoring areas (see ServCat record 103367). These data were collected as part of the Monarch Conservation Science Partnership (MCSP) monarch butterfly and habitat monitoring trial. Final verified data file includes butterfly counts for sites sampled in Legacy Region 2 and 3. Areas monitored included Balcones Canyonlands (TX), Hagerman (TX), Washita (OK), Neal Smith (IA), Necedah (WI) NWRs and several locations near the town of Lamoni, Iowa and northern Missouri.
