Published by Office of Coast Survey | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Department of Commerce | Catalog Last Checked: May 16, 2026 at 10:37 PM | Dataset Last Updated: January 01, 2026 at 12:00 AM
This dataset collection is comprised of baseline data for marine critical minerals areas of interest, which the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is collecting through priority projects in US federal waters, in accordance with Executive Order 14285: Unleashing America's Offshore Critical Minerals and Resources. The baseline datasets incorporate a full evaluation of deep sea areas in order to create hydrographic maps, geophysical maps, and characterize seafloor composition. More specifically, the data collected for the baseline datasets will typically include hydrographic and geophysical survey data, photographs, and physical seabed samples. Data may be collected via multiple platforms (survey vessels, autonomous vessels) and from a myriad of instrumentation (multibeam echosounders, sub-bottom profilers, magnetometers, underwater cameras, box cores). The final full datasets will be archived at the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) for long-term preservation.
