These shapefiles are a compilation of U.S. Army Corp of Engineer's spatially referenced information for locations, formation, and length of dike structures in sections of the Missouri, Mississippi, and Illinois rivers. The original datasets were provided by the Kansas City, Rock Island, and St. Louis districts of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. Structures were classified into 10 types which were further characterized by whether the structure was notched. Use of the term notch suggests variation in elevation along the length of the structure, either due to substantial erosion or managed height causing visual indication of non-uniform flow from aerial or satellite imagery.
